Stylish sun protection, automated control and certified safety – an inspiring project for architects and planners.
The new extension of Freiburg District Court skilfully combines historic architecture with a contemporary design language.
Key to this is the integrated sun shading concept using WAREMA venetian blinds, which unites function, aesthetics and safety.
The façade features a monolithic appearance in porphyry red; the blinds match in colour and are precisely aligned with the design grid. WAREMA's E 60 A2 S venetian blinds with beaded-edge slats and cable guides are controlled automatically via KNX and a weather station.
The slats block direct sunlight while allowing consistent natural light to enter – ideal for courtrooms and workspaces.
At the same time, the sun shading system reduces cooling demand, supports energy efficiency and enhances thermal comfort.
For sensitive areas like escape routes, WAREMA has integrated a battery-powered emergency retraction set: In case of power failure or fire, the blinds automatically retract to the upper position, ensuring safe escape routes.
